We did it.
After years of hard work, we’ve finally retired from the daily grind, settled the young ones into their own homes, sold everything, and hit the road. It feels absolutely glorious (and, let’s be honest, a little terrifying).
Kieran wrapped up work in mid-December, giving him time to help the kids settle, sell the last of our things, and pack up the tunnel boots. It also gave him a head start on embracing the retired life—though whether he ever learns to sleep past 3 AM remains to be seen!
Amanda finished up in mid-January, with just enough time to squeeze in one last van re-pack (or four). But at this point, we’ll sort it all out as we go.
Leaving work behind wasn’t easy, and adjusting to this new pace of life will take time. We’re also adapting to the shift of watching our kids carve out their own paths—but we couldn’t be prouder. They’re building fantastic lives for themselves, and as long as they’re happy, what more could we want?
Now, it’s our turn. We’re officially on the road! We’ll be exploring Victoria for the next couple of months, and after that? Who knows! We have no fixed plans—just the open road and a world of adventure ahead.

Kieran has been travelling ever since he left home at the tender age of 16, and his love for travel has never stopped. Shortly after leaving home he joined a shearing team that travelled to some of the most remote stations throughout Western Australia. After cutting out a shed in the small town of Boyup Brook in the south west of WA on a particular cold winter, he travelled north in search of some warmer weather during the off season. Landing a job in the Pilbara in the town of Port Hedland he was lucky enough to meet Amanda. They joined forces and frequently travelled between Western Australia and Central Queensland, finally settling in Victoria
.
Amanda was raised in Western Australia's Pilbara region in Port Hedland, her love affair with the outback began early on. Growing up amidst the rugged landscapes, she developed a deep bond with the land that fueled her thirst for adventure.
From childhood camping trips under the vast, star-studded skies, to adrenaline-pumping road trips through the dusty terrain, Amanda's passion for exploration only intensified with time. Every journey was a chance to uncover hidden gems and embrace the essence of the outback.
With the purchase of an 80s series Toyota Landcruiser and a small tent the adventures began. We didn't get too far however until life prompted a change of plans. Kieran started working in the mining industry which eventually led to many years working an unforgiving Fly In Fly Out schedule.
25 years later. There has been way too many long days, weekends worked and missed holidays for both of us. We are now in the planning stage for our early retirement and the lap that will never end. With the purchase of our van in 2020, and another new car. D Day is set for Dec 2024.
